Health of hunger striker Qeiq takes turn for worse in Israeli jail

Friday 24-February-2017

The health condition of Palestinian hunger striker Mohamed al-Qeiq has taken a turn for the worse in an Israeli prison clinic a lawyer warned Friday.

Lawyer Khaled Zabarqa said following a visit to al-Qeiq in Ramla prison clinic that the hunger striker’s health has gone through a sharp deterioration and that he has become wheel-chaired after he lost his ability to walk.

The lawyer added that al-Qeiq has been enduring frequent faints and a sharp weight loss as a result of the hunger strike.

The lawyer quoted medics at the clinic as warning of an inflammation infecting al-Qeiq’s right eye.

Meanwhile al-Qeiq has been subjected to crackdowns by the Israeli prison authorities to undergo medical check-ups and suspend his hunger strike.

Al-Qeiq has been on an open-ended hunger strike for 19 consecutive days in protest at being held administratively with neither charge nor trial in an Israeli jail.
