Heated argument between Olmert and Barak over resuming truce talks with Hamas

Monday 9-March-2009

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– Israeli media outlets reported that a strong argument took place Sunday between Israeli minister Ehud Olmert and his war minister Ehud Barak over the resumption of Egyptian-mediated truce talks with the Hamas Movement and the value of operation cast lead against Gaza.

The Hebrew radio said that the argument broke out during the weekly cabinet meeting when Olmert reiterated that there would be no calm agreement with Hamas before the release of captive soldier Gilad Shalit while the IOF website said that Barak insisted during the meeting on resuming calm talks with Hamas through the Egyptian mediator.

Directing his talk to Barak Olmert stressed that the war minister’s statements bore out that the military operation against Gaza did not yield any results in favor of Israel.

“The minister of defense (Barak) changes his opinion and positions according to his mood. After he previously said that he would respond to any rocket attacks he changed his mind following operation cast lead and declined to respond to the Strip’s rockets” Olmert added.

The Israeli security cabinet in last month decided not to open the Gaza crossings or conclude a truce agreement with the Palestinian faction without the release of Shalit first.
