Hundreds of settlers defile Aqsa Mosque under police guard

Sunday 7-August-2022

At least 2201 extremist Jewish settlers desecrated the Aqsa Mosque in Occupied Jerusalem on Sunday morning and later in the afternoon to mark what they claim to be the destruction of the temple.

1756 of those settlers including rabbis and Knesset members entered the Mosque in different groups through its Maghariba Gate in the morning and toured its courtyards under tight police guard according to Jerusalemite media sources.

Rabbi Yehuda Glick and Knesset member Itamar Ben Gvir both notorious instigators against the Jerusalemite citizens and the Aqsa Mosque were among the settler groups who defiled the Islamic holy site in the morning.

A number of settlers performed Talmudic prayers at some gates of the Aqsa Mosque and during their tours of the holy site’s courtyards. Israeli flags were also carried by some settlers.

Meanwhile at least eight Palestinian young men were detained and hauled to detention centers by Israeli police officers during their presence inside and outside the Mosque compound.

More than 500 Israeli settlers on Wednesday morning desecrated the Aqsa Mosque’s courtyards under tight police protection.

Eyewitnesses told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that some settlers behaved provocatively during their presence at the Mosque and as they were leaving through al-Silsila Gate. They added that the Israeli policemen assaulted the Aqsa guards and rounded up three of them.

Awkaf (Endowment) department officials said that the settlers broke into the holy Islamic site in ten groups adding that the total number of settlers reached 525 which they said is the biggest in the history of morning forced tours in the site.

Meanwhile the Israeli police are still persistent in imposing tight security measures in east Jerusalem and its Old City and preventing pro-Aqsa activists from entering the Mosque.
