Hundreds of settlers storm Nablus for rituals at Joseph’s Tomb

Thursday 3-January-2019

About 2500 Jewish settlers stormed overnight the eastern area of Nablus city in the occupied West Bank under military protection and performed rituals at Joseph’s Tomb.

According to the Hebrew website 0404 commander of the northern West Bank division Sagiv Dahan and regional council head Yossi Dagan as well as officers and rabbis were among the settlers who swarmed the tomb and the area around it.

In press remarks Dagan called for enabling the Jews to visit Joseph’s Tomb in the daytime and imposing what he called Israel’s sovereignty over the site.

Meanwhile several Palestinian citizens suffered injuries during clashes with scores of Israeli soldiers and settlers during their presence in the eastern area of Nablus where the tomb is located.

A reporter for Palestine satellite channel suffered a rubber bullet injury in one of his legs and a paramedics was also badly wounded by two rubber bullets. Many others suffered from their exposure to tear gas during the events.

Israeli troops and settlers storm almost every week the eastern area of Nablus to perform rituals at the tomb which they think is the resting-place of the biblical patriarch Joseph while locals and Palestinian historians affirm that the grave belongs to a local medieval Muslim sheikh called Yousef al-Duweik.
