Hunger strike in Gaza in solidarity with prisoners

Sunday 5-March-2017

Dozens of Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip joined on Sunday a one-day hunger strike in solidarity with hunger striking prisoners in Israeli jails: Mohammad al-Qiq and Jamal Abu Al-Lail.

A sit-in tent was organized at the Unknown Soldier roundabout in Gaza City by Waed Association for Human Rights Palestinian Media Forum and prisoners committee of the national and Islamic factions.

Head of Waed Association Tawfiq abu Naim pointed out in a press conference that the issue of Palestinian detainees has been absent from UN and international institutions’ agendas. He called for activating and internationalizing the issue of prisoners saying that Palestinians count on the resistance for the liberation of detainees.

For his part head of Palestinian Media Forum Emad al-Efrenji appealed to Arab media to pay more attention to the Palestinian Question with regards to media coverage.

He asked the UN along with the Human Rights Council as well as the International Federation of Journalists and Arab Journalists Union to intervene for the release of the Palestinian journalist Mohammad al-Qiq who has been on hunger strike in Israeli jails for 28 consecutive days.

Nashat al-Wahidi representative of the prisoners committee of the national and Islamic factions called for massive participation in the weekly sit-in of the families of Palestinian detainees in order to make it enter the Guinness Book of Records as the longest sit-in since 1996.
