The Palestinian Prisoner Society said that a session will be held on Monday in Hadarim and Ashkelon prisons between the leadership of the hunger strike and the Israel Prison Service (IPS) to agree on the implementation mechanisms of what was agreed upon in order to end the strike.
The Society said in a statement that another committee is supposed to begin its tour to prisons to examine the prisoners’ incarceration conditions and start making substantial improvements on them based on the agreement between the two sides.
For his part the head of the Society Qaddoura Fares expressed his confidence in the hunger strike leadership and their ability to manage the situation until the terms of the agreement are met.
He praised the Palestinian prisoners who waged the Freedom and Dignity hunger strike and confirmed their readiness to resume the strike if there is any manipulation by the IPS.
Fares affirmed that the state of confusion that prevailed in the first days after the end of the strike receded after the IPS lifted the sanctions imposed on the prisoners during the strike.
Hundreds of Palestinian prisoners launched a hunger strike starting 17th April 2017 that lasted for 40 days and was ended based on a vague agreement amid accusations that the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah played a role in ending the strike before actual achievements were made for prisoners.
