IOA accuses Sheikh Bakirat of delivering sermons teaching Qur’an

Sunday 28-November-2021

The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) has been arbitrarily detaining Sheikh Najeh Bakirat deputy director of the Islamic Awqaf in Jerusalem for several days.

Malek Bakirat Sheikh Najeh’s son said that an Israeli court extended the detention of his father after rounds of police interrogation about his work at the Aqsa Mosque.

Bakirat pointed out that the Israeli police accused his father of delivering sermons and lectures and teaching the holy Qur’an in Mosques and reconciling between people.

He described the detention of his father as an attempt to silence the free voices in Jerusalem and as part of the ongoing Israeli attacks on the Jerusalemites and the Aqsa Mosque.

He called on the Muslim nation’s free people to stand by the Aqsa Mosque and those who defend it.

For his part lawyer Khaled Zabarqa said that the Israeli prosecutor last Thursday asked for extending the detention of Sheikh Bakirat for five days but the court extended it until Sunday November 28.

Zabarqa added that according to the court session held last Thursday there were no clear accusations leveled against Sheikh Bakirat describing his detention as arbitrary.

He was interrogated about his lectures sermons his role in reconciling between people and his participation in social and religious events.
