The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) banned the Adhan (call for prayer) on Friday at the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil.
Palestinian minister of Awkaf and religious affairs Yousef Id’es lashed out at the IOA decision describing it as a “serious precedent” and a “cowardly violation” of the Palestinian Muslims’ freedom of worship.
He said that the repeated IOA violations against the Ibrahimi Mosque and its environs point to its attempt of imposing full control over the Mosque and Islamic sites in al-Khalil.
The minister called on the Palestinian people to confront the IOA practices and urged the international institutions especially UNESCO to firmly act against such violations.
