Palestinian security sources on Saturday said that the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) last week prevented 26 Palestinians from the West Bank from travelling abroad through al-Karama crossing with Jordan.
Spokesman for the Jericho police department Iyad Daraghmeh said that the passengers were denied travel for unexplained security reasons.
Daraghmeh told Quds Press that 33000 Palestinians were able to pass through al-Karama crossing the only outlet connecting the West Bank with the outside world through Jordan in both directions during the reported period.
Palestinian human rights groups believe that IOA travel bans are part of political pressure imposed by the Israeli occupation on Palestinians and have nothing to do with any suspicious security activities.
These bans include preventing thousands of Palestinian patients in the West Bank hundreds of whom are over the age of 80 from entering Jerusalem.
Following its occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip Israel established al-Karama crossing (Allenby) which is 55 kilometers west of Amman basically for the travel of West Bank Palestinians.
Another commercial crossing was built called Sheikh Hussein bridge 90 kilometers north of Amman but it later started to be used for the travel of Israelis foreign tourists and Palestinians of the 1948 occupied territories who have Israeli IDs.
