IOA blocks Gaza patients from crossing through Beit Hanun for treatment

Wednesday 4-August-2010

GAZA (PIC)– The Palestinian ministry of health denounced Israel’s decision to ban patients from Gaza with bone and nerve illnesses from passing through the Beit Hanun border crossing for treatment in West Bank and Israeli hospitals.

The Israeli government has prohibited free travel through Gaza’s borders since the opening of the Rafah crossing on the Gaza-Egypt border in June an act which the ministry says affects dozens of medical cases.

“To prevent a patient from travel for treatment is considered a crime of humanity held accountable by international humanitarian law” the ministry said Tuesday calling on human rights organizations especially the Red Cross and the World Health Organization to intervene immediately to reverse this step.

The ministry called on the international community to pressure Israel to end its arbitrary policies and end the siege on the Gaza Strip.
