IOA blocks OIC team from probing Aqsa excavations

Sunday 4-March-2007

AMMAN (PIC)– The Israeli occupation authority has refused to allow a team from OIC into occupied Jerusalem to investigate the IOA excavations at the Aqsa Mosque.

The Jordanian news agency PETRA quoted Raef Najm the deputy chairman of the Jordanian committee for the maintenance of the Aqsa Mosque and the Dome of the Rock as saying on arrival in Amman coming from Jerusalem after a ten-day visit that the IOA refused to allow the delegates to check the diggings at the Aqsa.

He said that that the IOA acts threaten the very construction of the Aqsa Mosque and represent a flagrant violation of international treaties and doctrines in addition to the UN Security Council’s concerned resolutions.

He pointed out that Turkey and UNESCO would send two separate technical teams to the holy city to get a first hand report on the violations and their threats to the Aqsa Mosque.

Najm was accompanied by Jordanian ambassador to UNESCO Dina Kawar.

UNESCO enlisted Jerusalem in 1982 as one of the endangered international heritage sites due to the ceaseless Israeli violations of the holy city’s landmarks despite the UN’s repeated resolutions banning any harm to holy shrines.

The IOA started destruction works at the Magharba road leading to the western wall of the Aqsa Mosque on 6/2/2007 using heavy bulldozers.
