RAMALLAH (PIC)– The Israeli Occupation Authorities (IOA) demanded Watan TV to stop broadcasting immediately under the pretext that its transmission was jamming on Israeli frequencies.
Lawyer of Watan TV has received a letter from Israeli authorities asking the TV channel to stop broadcasting immediately; otherwise action will be taken against the TV according to PIC reporter.
The director of Watan TV Muammar Orabi told MADA center that his TV station will not stop broadcasting because the letter is not legal since the TV is licensed officially by the Palestinian Ministry of Communication and IT.
Orabi said: “We brought experts in the field of frequencies and they assured us that the frequencies do not pose any threat to other frequencies. The IOA only aim to obstruct the Palestinian media institutions’ work which constitutes an infringement on the freedom of expression.”
He expressed his deep concern over a possible raid by Israeli occupation forces on his TV station especially that occupation forces raided Watan TV in 2012 and confiscated its equipment estimated at 300 thousand dollars under the same flimsy pretexts.
Sheraa TV in Tulkarem city was forced to stop broadcasting last February which led to heavy financial losses.
Israeli repressive measures against Palestinian media institutions fall in line with Israeli attacks on Palestinian press freedom.
