The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) on Saturday displaced Jerusalemite families after forcing them to demolish their own homes in Silwan district and Jabel al-Mukaber neighborhood at the pretext of unlicensed construction.
According to SAFA news agency the Israeli police phoned Mohamed Matar and asked him to comply with a demolition order issued previously by the municipality against his house in Ein al-Hilweh neighborhood of Silwan district.
The police also warned Matar that he would have to pay 100000 shekels to the municipality if he refused to demolish his own house at his own expense.
Matar said that he had to start demolishing his house with his own hands because of his difficult living conditions and the financial penalty which he still pays to the municipality for building the house with no permit.
He pointed out that he was given until next Monday to finish demolishing the house which he built 12 years ago.
Matar lived in that house with his wife and four kids.
In a similar incident the Israeli municipality forced a young man called Ali Sari to demolish his own house in Jabel al-Mukaber south of the Aqsa Mosque.
Sari lived in the house which he built five months ago with his wife and three children.
