The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) on Sunday forced a Jerusalemite citizen to demolish his own home in Silwan district east Jerusalem at the pretext of unlicensed construction.
According to local sources Bahaa Zeitoun was forced to dismantle and destroy his prefabricated wooden house with his own hands to avoid incurring exorbitant demolition expenses and fines if the IOA came to remove it.
In recent weeks Israeli municipal employees and police forces stormed neighborhoods in Silwan and handed several Jerusalemite citizens demolition orders against homes and structures.
The Jerusalemites have no choice but to build without licenses because there are no structural maps that respond to the natural increase in their numbers and for that reason they are denied house permits.
Since the beginning of the current year the IOA have razed 31 homes and 11 structures and non-residential buildings in Jerusalem.
