Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) on Monday forced two Palestinian brothers to demolish their home in Beit Hanina town in Jerusalem.
The brothers said that they were forced to bring a bulldozer and demolish their own house to avoid paying a fine estimated at thousands of shekels to Israel’s Jerusalem Municipality.
Since the occupation of Jerusalem in 1967 Israel has demolished over 1900 Palestinian houses in the city as part of a policy to force Palestinian residents out.
The demolitions are usually done over “unlicensed construction”. At the same time the IOA refuses to issue building permits for the Palestinians living in Jerusalem but allows construction activities carried out by Israeli settlers.
