The Israeli Occupation Authorities (IOA) issued administration detention orders against 41 Palestinians including a member of the Palestinian parliament the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said on Tuesday.
PPS pointed out that 16 of the administrative detention orders were issued against Palestinians who were detained for the first time or were re-detained after being released from prison upon completing their former sentence.
The Israeli authorities extended the detention period of Khalida Jarrar a parliament member by six months after serving her first six months in administrative detention the sources added.
There are currently 6500 Palestinian prisoners in 22 Israeli jails and detention centers including 56 women 350 minors 13 MPs and 500 administrative detainees.
International rights organizations have strongly denounced Israel’s excessive use of administrative detention to silence Palestinian activists who are usually held without charge or trial for long periods of time.
