Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) on Monday ordered two Palestinian families to demolish their houses in Silwan town south of Jerusalem City.
Wadi Hilweh Information Center said that the IOA ordered the Al-Qaq and Abu Sbeih families to demolish their three houses in Silwan over “unlicensed construction”.
Activist Khaled Abu Tayeh said that the families have started to evacuate their homes as they intend to carry out the demolition themselves to avoid paying heavy fines to Israel’s Jerusalem municipality.
Abu Tayeh confirmed that all legal attempts made by the families to freeze the demolition orders have failed.
Thousands of Palestinians in Jerusalem live under the constant threat of having their homes demolished or being ordered to demolish them at any moment over made up allegations.
Based on official Palestinian statistics over 1900 Palestinian houses have been demolished in Jerusalem since the city was occupied in 1967.
