IOA razes Palestinian home in J’lem displaces its residents

Wednesday 5-January-2022

The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) on Wednesday morning demolished a house belonging to a Palestinian family in the east Jerusalem district of Silwan at the pretext of unlicensed construction.

According to local sources workers from the Israeli municipality escorted by police forces embarked on manually demolishing the house of Sultan Helisi in Wadi Hilweh neighborhood in Silwan.

Helisi had been living with his wife and three kids in that house since 2014. The IOA already forced him to pay 35000 shekels in fines for building the house with no permit.

The Jerusalemites have no choice but to build without licenses because there are no structural maps that respond to the natural increase in their numbers and for that reason they are denied house permits.

The IOA also imposes building restrictions on the Palestinian natives in Jerusalem and makes it hard for them to obtain construction licenses.

Israel’s systematic demolition of Palestinian homes in Occupied Jerusalem is believed to be aimed at psychologically destroying the Jerusalemite families in an attempt to force them to move from the holy city.
