IOA refuses to return slain Palestinian’s body

Thursday 12-January-2017

The Israeli Occupation Authorities (IOA) refused Thursday to return the Palestinian martyr Abdul Hamid Abu Surur’s body.

The Israeli Supreme Court said that its decision came after Israeli cabinet ordered not to return bodies of Hamas-affiliated slain Palestinians.

Abu Surur was shot and killed in April 2016 for being allegedly involved in an anti-occupation attack west of occupied Jerusalem. 21 Israeli settlers were injured during the alleged attack.

Since then Abu Surur’s body was held in an Israeli morgue.

Abu Surur’s family has recently appealed to the Supreme Court for his body’s release. However the court turned down the appeal.

Israeli occupation authorities have continued to hold the bodies of at least seven slain Palestinians accused of carrying out attacks against Israeli settlers. Among the seven are the bodies of the three Hamas-affiliated Palestinians.

Earlier the Israeli cabinet decided that bodies of slain Palestinians affiliated with the Hamas Movement who were killed while carrying out attacks against Israelis will not be returned to their families.

Hamas described the cabinet’s decisions regarding Hamas slain members as “racist” and “reflect the Israeli occupation’s aggression and savagery towards the Palestinian people and prisoners.”
