IOA renews administrative custody of MP extends detention of journalist

Thursday 2-February-2012

AL-KHALIL (PIC)– The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) renewed the administrative detention without charge of Hamas MP Mohammed Jamal Al-Natshe for six months for the second time running.

The Gaza ministry of prisoners said that the Israeli prison service informed Natshe of the renewal decision describing the decision as violation of his immunity as a parliament member.

It urged international organizations and the Red Cross to demand the release of all detained Palestinian MPs topped by parliament speaker Dr. Aziz Dweik.

It said that the IOA was holding 27 lawmakers including 24 affiliated with Hamas two with Fatah and one with the popular front for the liberation of Palestine.

Meanwhile the IOA on Wednesday extended the detention of Palestinian journalist Amin Abu Warda for five days at the pretext of preparing an indictment list against him.

Ahmed Al-Beitawi a researcher with the Tadamun foundation for human rights said that the Salem military court issued the ruling on Wednesday.

He quoted Abu Warda as saying that the Israeli intelligence was trying to frame him adding that interrogators ask him about his work and his presence in Malaysia where he prepares for his doctorate.
