IOA renews administrative detention of Palestinian minor for 4th time

Friday 11-December-2020

The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) renewed on Thursday the administrative detention of the youngest Palestinian administrative prisoner Suleiman Qatash 17 from Ein Yabroud village east of Ramallah for 4 months.

Qatash’s father Salem said in a press statement that the IOA extended the administrative detention of his son who is being held in the Damon prison. “Qatash was supposed to be released on the 17th of December but the IOA renewed his detention for the fourth time” he added.

On 16/12/2019 the IOA arrested Qatash from his home and ordered his administrative detention.

The number of Palestinians who were arrested from 1967 until the end of June 2020 reached about one million Palestinians including more than fifty thousand Palestinian children.

The number of child prisoners and minors in detention in the Israeli prisons at the end of June 2020 reached about 160 boys and girls in Megiddo Ofer and Damon jails other than those in the detention and investigation centers. Several children were also detained from Jerusalem and held in detention centers some of them under 14 years of age.

Palestinian children in detention centers suffer from cruel and inhuman detention conditions that lack minimum international standards which violates their basic rights the international law and the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
