IOA renews al-Qiq’s investigation

Wednesday 1-February-2017

The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) returned on Wednesday the detained Palestinian journalist Mohammed al-Qiq to Ofer prison for further investigation.

Journalist Fayha Shalash al-Qiq’s wife told the PIC reporter that lawyer Khaled Zabarqa was supposed to visit Mohammed on Wednesday in Ofer prison. However the visit was canceled as Zabarqa was informed in the morning that al-Qiq was returned to interrogation last night.

Shalash said that there has been no information about her husband since last Thursday and that they do not know whether Mohammed al-Qiq resumed his hunger strike or not. Based on what al-Qiq’s lawyer told her two weeks ago Shalash expected her husband to go on with his hunger strike once returned to administrative detention.

The IOA arrested al-Qiq on 15th January 2017 while he was passing through Beit El checkpoint north of Ramallah city.

Al-Qiq went on a hunger strike in 2015 that lasted for 94 days that only ended when the Israeli prison service agreed to set him free after he serves his administrative term with no renewal of his detention.
