IOA seizes mother of two captives to pressure them

Tuesday 10-April-2007

QALQILIA (PIC)– Human rights and legal institutions in occupied Palestine have called on the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) to immediately free kidnapped Palestinian mother Kawthar Theyab 48 who is detained in the Jalama detention camp without charge.

According to those institutions including the Nafha society and the Mizan (scale) legal center among other human right and legal bodies the mother is detained in harsh detention conditions in addition to denying her family visits for five days now.

They also charged that the seizure of the mother was meant to pressure her two sons who are undergoing interrogation sessions at the same detention center to force them to confess.

Family of Theyab held the IOA fully responsible for the safety of their daughter affirming that the detained mother suffers of a number of chronic diseases and that she was detained in solitary confinement inside the prison.

A number of Palestinian lawyers have requested to meet the Palestinian mother as stipulated in international laws and conventions yet the IOA shrugged off those statutes and turned down the lawyers’ request.

In Jenin city large numbers of IOF troops stormed the city and the nearby refugee camp at dawn Tuesday for the second time in less than 24 hours prompting fierce trading of fire between Palestinian resistance fighters and the invaders.

Local Palestinian sources confirmed the IOF incursion into the city but reported no arrests.

To the south of Jenin Palestinian resistance fighters confronted a convoy of IOF troops backed with military vehicles after they entered Kabatia town at the first hours of Tuesday morning.

A number of Palestinian homes in the town were ransacked by the invaders before fierce armed clashes between Palestinian fighters on the one hand and the IOF troops on the other hand forced those troops to pull out of the town. No casualties were reported in the clashes.

Along the road connecting Nablus and Jenin districts the IOF troops installed a number of roadblocks and intensified arbitrary measures against Palestinian commuters and motorists driving in that road.
