Thursday 24-May-2007

NABLUS (PIC)– IOF troops at dawn Thursday launched a large-scale arrest campaign in lines of Hamas-affiliated officials in the West Bank topped by minister of education Dr. Nasseruddin Al-Shaer.

Local sources in Nablus city said that large numbers of IOF soldiers encircled the home of Shaer northwest of the city before kidnapping him.

Other IOF soldiers kidnapped from the same city the MPs Sheikh Hamed Al-Beitawi and Daoud Abu Seir both members of the Hamas-affiliated change and reform parliamentary bloc.

In Tulkarm city the IOF troops stormed the house of MP Abdul Rahman Zeidan who was the public works ministers in the outgoing government and took him to an unknown location.

The campaign further included the kidnapping of mayors and members of elected local councils all affiliated with Hamas including Sheikh Wajih Al-Qawas mayor of Qalqilia who was released from occupation jails only a few months ago.

The illegal arrests also included the mayors of Nablus city and the villages of Beita Til Badia and other local councils’ members in the districts of Ramallah and Salfit.

Occupation forces also rounded up Sheikh Sufian Jamjom one of the prominent Islamic figures in Al-Khalil city and Awkaf and education officials in Nablus and Qalqilia districts.

The campaign is similar to the one late last June when most PLC Hamas members were abducted along with cabinet ministers and a big number of mayors and municipal councils’ members.
