IOF arrests Palestinian injures others in Tulkarem

Monday 17-August-2020

Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Monday arrested a Palestinian citizen and wounded others in Shoufa village in the West Bank district of Tulkarem.

Local sources said that dozens of Palestinian citizens took to the streets to prevent the IOF from razing privately-owned lands to build a new settler road in Shoufa village.

The IOF violently assaulted the protesting citizens and showered them with tear gas canisters.

An anti-settlement activist named Omar Hamed 40 was beaten and arrested in the attack while a number of citizens suffered breathing difficulties as a result of inhaling tear gas.

All those affected by the IOF tear gas were treated in the field according to eyewitnesses.

Local residents told the Palestinian Information Center’s reporter that the Israeli authorities are planning to establish a large industrial area on seized lands from the village.

They added that with the help of human rights institutions they have filed a petition with an Israel court against the land seizure and the planned move and they are still waiting for the court’s decision.
