IOF arrests two children in western Bethlehem

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) arrested two Palestinian children near the city of Beit Jala west of Bethlehem on Friday evening.

Local sources reported that IOF arrested the two children Saif Nader Ibrahim and Wadih Qasim Shaheen near Cremisan Road in Beit Jala.

The sources stated that IOF took the two children to an unknown destination in one of the jeeps after tying them up.

The number of child prisoners and minors in detention in the Israeli prisons at the end of June 2020 reached about 160 boys and girls in Megiddo Ofer and Damon jails other than those in the detention and investigation centers. Several children were also detained from Jerusalem and held in detention centers some of them under 14 years of age.

Palestinian children prisoners in detention centers suffer from cruel and inhuman detention conditions that lack minimum international standards. They suffer from lack and poor quality of food lack of hygiene the spread of insects overcrowding and being detained in rooms without adequate ventilation and lighting.

They also suffer from medical neglect lack of health care lack of clothing lack of means of play and entertainment being cut off from the outside world deprivation of family visits lack of counselors and psychologists.

Furthermore children are detained with criminal children and are exposed to verbal abuse beatings isolation collective punishment and disease outbreaks and are deprived of their right to education.
