Israeli occupation forces (IOF) attacked on Friday noon Muslim worshipers who attended the Friday prayer at the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil.
Local sources said that dozens of civilians were wounded by tear gas and sound bombs fired by the IOF soldiers.
Hundreds of al-Khalil residents gathered at the Ibrahimi Mosque and its courtyards to perform Friday prayer.
The IOF soldiers hindered the entry of Muslim worshipers and were deployed in the Old City and the vicinity of the Ibrahimi Mosque.
Hefzy Abu Sneina the director of the Mosque denounced the attack carried out by IOF on the citizens while they were leaving it.
For its part the Awqaf Directorate of al-Khalil called on the Palestinian people to intensify their presence in the Ibrahimi Mosque because the Israeli occupation seeks to empty the holy site of Muslim worshipers and complete its Judaization.
Sheikh Ekrema Sabri the preacher of the Al-Aqsa Mosque had earlier called on the Palestinians to confront the Israeli violations against the Ibrahimi Mosque.
A few days ago the occupation authorities began implementing a Judaization project on an area of 300 square meters of the yards of the Ibrahimi Mosque by installing an electric elevator to facilitate the Jewish settlers’ incursions.
