Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs Yousef Edais said in a statement on Thursday that Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) banned the Adhan (call for prayer) at al-Ibrahimi Mosque for 49 times last January.
Edais called on the international community to protect the religious cultural and historic heritage of the holy site and to halt the Israeli systematic violations aiming at changing the status quo in the mosque.
Israeli occupation authorities claim that calling for prayers via the mosque’s loudspeakers annoys settlers.
IOF soldiers also subject Palestinians in al-Khalil to inspection and harassment at the gates to the holy shrine and at the military barriers leading to the mosque and the Old City in al-Khalil.
