The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Sunday evening closed the Container checkpoint in Bethlehem which connects the northern and southern areas of the West Bank and prevented hundreds of Palestinian vehicles from moving.
According to local sources the closure caused severe traffic jams in both directions of the checkpoint and provoked altercations between drivers and the soldiers.
The Container checkpoint was established during the second intifada (uprising) on land annexed from as-Sawahira ash-Sharqiya town in Wad Nar area.
The Israeli army uses it to control the flow of traffic between the southern and northern West Bank.
When closed the northern and southern districts of the occupied West Bank become isolated.
