Wednesday 24-October-2007

Nablus (PIC)– An IOF officer was seriously wounded on Wednesday in a Palestinian resistance drive-by shooting near the Ariel settlement in the West Bank while three others were also injured in the attack.

IOF sources affirmed that the resistance attack seriously wounded an officer and a settler whose injuries were described as moderate.

They added that the driver of the GMC car and another man in his company fired at another group of settlers injuring two others with the bullet shrapnel and hitting six vehicles.

Large numbers of IOF troops rushed to the scene and started a combing operation.

In the Gaza Strip also on Wednesday the Nasser Salahuddin Brigades claimed responsibility for firing five mortar shells at two Israeli-controlled crossings east of Rafah south of the Strip.

They said that the firing was in retaliation to the assassination of Mubarak Al-Hasanat the deputy general commander of the Brigades who was also the director of the PA interior minister’s office.

The armed wing said that it also fired at an IOF watchtower east of Breij and clashed with a group of IOF soldiers in the area at dawn Wednesday. It said that Islamic Jihad activists joined them in this attack.
