IOF settlers attack peaceful march in Ramallah village

Friday 18-December-2020

Israeli occupation forces (IOF) and Jewish settlers attacked the people of al-Mughayir village who marched against settlement activity in the lands of their village to the northeast of Ramallah on Friday afternoon.

Local sources reported that several settlers under the IOF protection fired live bullets at the journalists who were covering the event and attacked the marchers. For their part IOF soldiers fired teargas canisters and sound bombs at the marchers.

The march was launched from the center of the village towards the Ras al-Tin area condemning the occupation’s intention to establish a new settlement outpost.

Al-Mughayir has been subjected to continuous attacks from the occupation and its settlers the last of which was the establishment of a new settlement outpost on Kafr Malik lands.

Recently the occupation committed a crime against the 13-year-old child Ali Abu Aliya when it fired live bullets at him and killed him.

Settlers of a settlement located on the lands of Mughayir frequently attack Palestinian farmers in the areas of Ain Samia and Marj Al-Dhahab.

The IOF set up an iron gate that completely isolates the village of Mughayir while bypass and settlement roads have seized large areas of the citizens’ lands.

The village was subjected to settlers’ attacks especially against trees. Hundreds of trees were cut down in the area. The Palestinian farmers are barred from accessing their lands due to threats on their lives.

In 2004 the first attack occurred against the trees in Al-Mughayir when settlers cut down 100 trees. In 2010 settlers burned trees by planting chemicals inside the soil which led to burning the trees from the roots.
