Thursday 3-May-2007

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM (PIC)– IOF troops on Thursday battered and arrested the 60-year-old Palestinian citizen Sabri Gharib and three of his sons in Beit Egza village northwest of occupied Jerusalem.

Local sources said that Gharib and his three sons protested the destruction of their home’s fence at the hands of workers constructing the separation wall close to his house.

IOF soldiers sent to aid the workers beat up the old man and his sons then took them to an unknown location for defending their home.

The IOA confiscated tens of dunums of Gharib’s lands more than 20 years ago and left him with his home and arrested him more than 20 times over those years for protesting the oppressive measure. In one of those arrests he was imprisoned for three years.

In an unrelated development relatives of the imprisoned Hamas leader Ra’fat Nassif said that the Israeli prisons authority had isolated him in Beer Sheeba prison over 12 days ago.

The relatives said that Nassif 42 was held in a small isolation cell at the orders of the director of that prison as a punishment over a trivial reason.

Nassif who has served three years of his four and a half years sentence suffers from migraine and pains in the stomach the relatives said expressing fears over a possible deterioration in his health condition as a result of the solitary confinement.

They appealed to the Red Cross and legal institutions to immediately intervene to get Nassif out of the isolation cell and to allow them to visit him in addition to forcing the Israeli occupation authority to end the policy of solitary confinement against Palestinian prisoners in general.
