Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Saturday morning violently dispersed a Palestinian protest against the Israeli settlement in al-Sawiya village south of Nablus City.
Local sources said that a group of Palestinian youths early on Saturday staged a peaceful protest in al-Sawiya that included trees planting activities in Palestinian lands threatened with confiscation in favor of settlement expansion.
The IOF stormed the village heavily fired tear gas canisters and stun grenades at the protesters and forced them out of the area.
Palestinian activists said the protest was organized to mark International Workers’ Day and voice rejection of the growing settlement expansion on Palestinian lands in the West Bank in general and al-Sawiya village in particular.
Al-Sawiya which covers an area of over 10000 dunums has lost about 4000 dunums of land to Israeli settlement construction.
