JEDDAH (PIC)– The Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu said the Muslims must work to protect the Arab-Islamic identity of Jerusalem at a time when the holy city is threatened by Judiazation calling on OIC members to continue to provide all forms of support and assistance to the Palestinian people.
Ihsanoglu addressed the Muslims on Monday in welcoming the month of Ramadan calling for a halt in violence. “I take this opportunity to call a truce to halt all acts of violence during Ramadan in the Islamic regions of the world” he said.
He expressed hopes that dialogues will take place to resolve current differences especially as related to the issue in Palestine.
“We hope the advent of Ramadan this year will bring about a new era in which the difficulties will end and the disputes will be solved through dialogue and peaceful means. And in the forefront of these issues is the issue in Palestine. We call upon active nations and the international community to spare no efforts to find a just and lasting solution to this issue enabling the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital” Ihsanoglu remarked.
