Imprisoned MPs welcome acting speaker’s invitation to hold session

Monday 5-November-2007

NABLUS (PIC)– Members of Hamas-affiliated change and reform parliamentary bloc imprisoned in Israeli jails expressed their delight at holding a new session of the PLC at the invitation of acting speaker Ahmed Bahar on next Wednesday based on the written authorizations they gave to their colleagues in the PLC in order to secure a quorum.

The MPs imprisoned in the Megiddo military prison stated in a press release that deputizing their colleagues in the PLC is a legal step and a right enshrined in the constitution that would maintain the independence of the Palestinian political decision despite the arbitrary practices of Israeli occupation.

In response to the MPs of Fatah parliamentary bloc who like to keep the PLC idle because Hamas has a majority of seats the imprisoned lawmakers said that the imprisoned MPs have the right to exercise their parliamentary duties in order to activate the work of the PLC and to frustrate the Israeli schemes aimed at disabling the Palestinian parliament.

On another matter concerning prisoners Adnan Abu Eisheh the representative of the Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli Negev desert prison confirmed that the prison’s administration did not fulfill the promises it made to the internees following the bloody events that took place at the prison.

During his meeting with Buthaina Dukmak the lawyer of Mandela foundation for human rights and political prisoners Abu Eisheh said that the prison’s administration did not provide anything concrete regarding the demands tabled by prisoners specifically with regard to preventing night inspections providing medical treatment for imprisoned patients and ending the solitary confinement of prisoners.

For their part the Negev prisoners told Mandela’s lawyer that they lack clothes and personal things after the Israeli soldiers burnt their tents.

They also asserted that the Israeli wardens during the last events were deliberately and randomly shooting at the upper parts of their bodies calling for sending a fact-finding committee to investigate the Israeli crimes that occurred in the prison.
