Information ministry: 28 journalists in Israeli prisons

Tuesday 18-April-2017

The Palestinian ministry of information said there are 28 Palestinian journalists in Israeli jails deprived of their legal rights.

In a report released on the Palestinian Prisoner Day that fell on Monday the ministry affirmed the detained journalists are exposed to serious violations of the international law.

The ministry’s report explained that the journalists suffer from the policy of extendable administrative detention with no indictment or trial and receive court verdicts issued by military courts while many others who have health problems are medically neglected.

Other measures used against them by the Israeli occupation authorities include banishing them from where they live or placing them under house arrest the report added.

The ministry also denounced Israel’s daily violations against the Palestinian media institutions and their workers demanding international protection for them and urgent intervention to have all the journalists released from Israeli prisons.
