GAZA (PIC)– The Palestinian ministry of information in Gaza has expressed concern over the escalating violation of the freedoms of opinion and expression in the West Bank and the overall decline in public freedoms.
The ministry in a press release on Monday noted that the security elements affiliated to the Fatah-controlled PA in Ramallah raided Watan TV station without any legal justification and summoned a number of media officials in addition to serving closure notices to a number of local TV stations at the pretext of lack of permits.
It pointed out that security apparatuses in the West Bank are still detaining five journalists charging that the detained reporters face military trial.
The ministry urged journalists to unite their lines in defense of their “suppressed rights” and asked Arab and international media institutions to urgently intervene to restrict the quelling of freedoms and harassing journalists and to demand the release of all detained journalists.
