Injuries arrests reported in Israeli quelling of Haifa protest

Saturday 19-May-2018

A cautious atmosphere prevailed Saturday morning in Haifa city in the 1948 occupied territories following a difficult night of arrests and confrontations between the Israeli police and Palestinians who were demonstrating in protest at the US embassy transfer and the Israeli crimes in Gaza.

The Israeli police late Friday attacked a demonstration organized by Palestinian activists in Haifa arresting a number of demonstrators and injuring others.

The participants chanted slogans calling for lifting Gaza siege and ending the occupation and condemning the Israeli massacres against peaceful protesters in Gaza.

The Israeli police arrested at least 18 Palestinians including minors and assaulted others including journalists and the Arab members of the Knesset Jamal Zahalka and Haneen Zoabi.

The Israeli police forces before the launch of the demonstration were deployed in large numbers in the city using civilian cars without plates.

At least 118 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza including 12 children since the Great Return March started on 30th March. About 60 Palestinians were killed in a massacre committed on 14th May.
