Violent clashes broke out late Monday near the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil after the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) suppressed a Palestinian march protesting the Israeli Judaization plans in the Islamic site.
Local sources said that a large march was organized near the Mosque protesting the Israeli demolition of the staircase of the Ibrahimi Mosque as part of a plan to install an electric elevator to facilitate the Jewish settlers’ entry into the Mosque.
The IOF soldiers closed the Mosque’s gate and brutally attacked the protesters including a number of journalists.
A young man was arrested during the events after being brutally beaten.
Earlier on Monday the IOA resumed demolishing the staircase of the Ibrahimi Mosque as part of a plan to install an electric elevator to facilitate the Jewish settlers’ entry into the Mosque.
Hamas Movement said the demolition aims to change the general view of the historical and cultural building of the Ibrahimi Mosque which is part of the Israeli Judaization plans in the West Bank city of al-Khalil.
In May 2020 the Israeli premier (the then army minister) Naftali Bennett approved the land confiscation order against the Palestinian areas near the Ibrahimi Mosque in order to install the electric elevator.
