Islamic Awqaf (Endowment) Department in Occupied Jerusalem affirmed that it does not recognize the sovereignty of Israeli law over al-Aqsa Mosque.
This came in response to rumors that Israeli Supreme Court issued a judicial resolution that obliges Israeli police to ban Palestinian children from playing around the courtyards of al-Aqsa Mosque based on a petition filed by Jewish extremist right-wing societies. These societies claimed that children playing about at the plazas of al-Aqsa constitutes a violation of sacred places.
In a statement on Thursday Awqaf Department reiterated that “The holy site of al-Aqsa Mosque whose area is 144 dunums and includes mosques plazas and other facilities including the wall is a Mosque for Muslims only and no authority has the right to interfere in its affairs”.
“We do not recognize any of the Israeli courts’ decisions regarding al-Aqsa Mosque and these resolutions do not oblige us to abide by it. We do not recognize the sovereignty of the Israeli law over al-Aqsa.” the statement highlighted.
