The Islamic Bloc (Hamas-affiliated student group) at Birzeit University has called on the Palestinian Authority (PA) security apparatuses to immediately release its coordinator Osama Mafarjeh and stop the persecution of students because of their political affiliations.
In a press release on Thursday the Islamic Bloc denounced the PA security apparatuses for persisting in targeting student activists from the university describing their practices as “serious violations.”
The Bloc also expressed its shock and dismay at the escalation of political detention and persecution in the West Bank despite the current serious efforts to achieve the national reconciliation.
PA security forces recently arrested Mafarjeh along with head of the University’s student union council Omar Kaswani and then released the latter after confiscating his car laptop and ID card.
Members of the Islamic Bloc and the student union council at Birzeit University are repeatedly exposed to politically motivated arrest and harassment by the PA security agencies.
