Islamic Jihad: Too early to talk about a ceasefire

Sunday 7-August-2022

Following new reports on a possible truce on Sunday night senior Islamic Jihad official Mohamed al-Hindi affirmed that “it is premature to talk about a specific time for a ceasefire in Gaza.”

Hindi told Quds News Network that there are intensive contacts with multiple mediators adding a delegation from Egypt arrived in Gaza.

“We need our demands to be clear and defined in the Egyptian announcement before agreeing on a time for a ceasefire” he said.

The Islamic Jihad official made the remarks following conflicting news reports on a potential ceasefire taking hold on Sunday night between the Israeli occupation state and Islamic Jihad.

Earlier in the evening sources told Al Jazeera satellite channel that a truce would be announced in the coming hours.

Meanwhile the death toll from Israeli attacks on Gaza has climbed to 41 martyrs after 10 citizens including children were killed in fresh Israeli airstrikes on Sunday evening.
