Israel doesn’t plan to open investigation into Abu Akleh’s killing

Thursday 19-May-2022

Israeli media sources reported on Thursday that the Israeli military will not open an investigation into the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh who was assassinated last week while covering the Jenin raids.

According to the Israeli newspaper Haaretz the main reason for not opening an investigation is the “absence of suspicion of a crime.”

The newspaper added that interrogating the Israeli soldiers will raise raging controversy among the Israeli military and community.

“Abu Akleh’s death has been widely covered in international media outlets” Haaretz underlined confirming that such coverage brought fierce condemnation of the Israeli military and its policy in the West Bank.

On the 11th of May 2022 the Palestinian ministry of health reported that Abu Akleh (the Al Jazeera correspondent in Palestine) was shot and killed by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) while she was covering the IOF storming of Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank.

Al Jazeera Media Network had held the IOF accountable for intentional targeting and killing of Abu Akleh charging that an Israeli sniper killed her intentionally and cold-bloodedly.
