Israel extends detention of Hamas official Yaser Baderasawi

Tuesday 21-September-2021

The Israeli military court of Salem has extended the administrative detention of senior Hamas official Yaser Baderasawi for an additional four months.

The Israeli occupation forces kidnaped Baderasawi about six months ago from his home in Nablus City before a military court ordered his administrative detention later.

Baderasawi is a noted Hamas figure in Nablus and an activist in Palestinian refugee affairs. He was one of the Movement’s candidates in the parliamentary elections which was supposed to be held last May but postponed by Palestinian authority chief Mahmoud Abbas.

He had been detained several times before and spent a total of 10 years in Israeli jails mostly in administrative detention.

Administrative detention is incarceration without trial or charge and is widely used by Israel against the Palestinians solely at the pretext that a person plans to commit a future offense. It has no time limit and it is based on alleged secret files.
