Israel extends travel ban against Suleiman Aghbariya

Wednesday 22-June-2022

The Israeli interior ministry imposed on Wednesday an additional five-month travel ban on senior official of the Islamic Movement Suleiman Aghbariya.

According to Palestinian media sources interior minister Ayelet Shaked signed an order extending the travel ban already slapped on Aghbariya.

Last May Shaked issued a decision prohibiting him from traveling for one month.

The minister justified its decision by saying that she obtained information from the Israeli security services claiming that Aghbariya would use his travel abroad to conduct meetings with “terrorist parties” and rally support for the northern wing of the Islamic Movement.

For his part Aghbariya said that the extension of his travel ban was an expected measure against him in light of the rampant Israeli injustice practiced against the Palestinian people.

Describing the decision as “stupid arbitrary and politically motivated” he affirmed that “it has nothing to do with Israel’s security and violates the international law related to freedom of movement.”

“Such methods are useless and will not intimidate us or prevent us from being in contact with our Arab and Islamic worlds” he said.

The Israeli authorities had previously issued similar orders against several leaders of the Islamic Movement in Israel (1948 occupied Palestine) including Sheikh Ra’ed Salah and Sheikh Kamal al-Khatib.
