Israel issues ban of travel order against Sheikh Salah

Monday 16-January-2017

Israeli Minister of the Interior Aryeh Deri issued on Monday a ban of travel order against Head of the Islamic Movement in 1948 Occupied Palestine Sheikh Raed Salah just one day prior to his release due date this Tuesday.

Deri claimed that he believed that the travel of Sheikh Salah could bring real danger to the national security of Israel saying that it is an “ultimate necessity”. Israeli police re-opened investigation with Sheikh Salah last week for charges including incitement to violence and terrorism.

Israeli police arrested Sheikh Salah on May 8 after an Israeli court sentenced him to nine months in jail on allegation of incitement to anti-occupation protests in a Friday sermon known as Wadi al-Jouz sermon that dates back to 2007. Sheikh Salah decided to go on an open-ended hunger strike on Sunday 13 November in protest at being mistreated and locked up in an isolated cell in the Israeli Beersheba jail.

On November 17 2015 the Israeli occupation government blacklisted the Islamic Movement in 1948 occupied territories as an “outlawed” group. Over 20 charities affiliated to the Islamic Movement were closed.
