Israel razes Araqib village for 117th time

Wednesday 23-August-2017

Israeli police forces have destroyed al-Araqib Bedouin village in the Negev region south of the 1948 Occupied Palestine for the 117th time since 2010 displacing its residents including children and women and flattening its few still-standing structures.

Heavily armed officers as well as riot police forces raided the village on Wednesday morning and bulldozers destroyed the makeshift homes locals had been living in Member of the Committee for the Defense of Araqib Aziz al-Touri reported.

Quds Press quoted Touri as saying that Israeli bulldozers had earlier razed the village in the beginning of August. The villagers return and rebuild the village after each demolition he pointed out.

The Israeli magistrate court in Beersheba passed a verdict on Tuesday against four Palestinians in the village compelling them to pay 262000 shekels for the home-demolition costs and 100000 shekels as lawyers’ fees.

Araqib is one of more than 35 villages across the Negev region unrecognized by the Israeli government.
