TULKARM (PIC)– The Palestinian youth Ali Hassan Odeh is still held in Israeli occupation jails despite completing his sentence a year ago his relatives said.
They urged the PA ministry of prisoners’ affairs and the legal and human rights organizations to intervene and demand the immediate release of Ali who was sentenced ten years ago despite being a minor at that time.
The relatives explained that Ali 27 was sentenced to 12 years in jail after being arrested in April 1988 for killing his Israeli employer after the latter assaulted him and added that according to the Israeli law each year in jail is counted as nine months which meant that his sentence was completed a year ago.
In view of his age and due to the fact that he harbored no premeditated intention to kill Ali was put on trial at a civilian and not a security court Ali’s brother said.
He added that Ali is held in the homicide ward of Shatta jail which groups mostly Israeli murderers and drug addicts. He was forced to defend himself against their aggressive practices and was held as a punishment for two years in isolation cells the brother elaborated.
He finally noted that the family asked a lawyer to pursue Ali’s case and to ask for his release adding that a court hearing was set for 8th May to look into the case.
