Israel’s Arabs stage general strike after Qalansuwa home demolitions

Wednesday 11-January-2017

The High Follow-up Committee for Arab Citizens in Israel has called for an all-out general strike on Wednesday January 11 in all sectors in protest at “the criminal destruction of 11 Palestinian homes in Qalansuwa city.”

In a press release on Tuesday the committee urged the Arab citizens to close ranks and defend themselves against the Israeli government’s new attack on their areas.

“We condemn premier Benjamin Netanyahu personally for committing such crimes which reflect his racist mentality and are intended to divert attention from his scandals” head of the committee Ahmed Baraka stated.

The follow-up committee held on Tuesday afternoon an emergency meeting in the presence of mayor Abdul-Basset Salama and some Arab Knesset members following the demolition of the homes.

Mayor Salama visited the area along with members of the municipal council and announced he would resign from his post as Israeli bulldozers almost finished the demolition of the homes.

The demolitions took place after the Israeli authorities refused for decades to approve the city’s master plan.
