Israel signals go-ahead for construction of 2500 illegal homes

Tuesday 24-January-2017

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his war minister Avigdor Lieberman approved on Tuesday evening the construction of 2500 illegal settlement units on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank.

According to Israeli news outlets the planned settlement units will be built in major settlement blocks across the occupied territories.

100 units will reportedly be built in Beit El illegal settlement outpost built on Palestinian lands to the northeast of Ramallah.

The move is the second of its kind since new US president Donald Trump was sworn-in.

On Sunday the Israeli committee for settlement affairs in Occupied Jerusalem gave the go-ahead for the construction of 671 illegal settlement units.

324 units were approved in the Ramot settlement 174 units in the Ramat Shlomo settlement and 68 units in Pisgat Zeev outpost 49 in Beit Hanina 14 units in Wadi Joz 24 units in Umm Lisun and Umm Tuba seven units in Jabal al-Mukabbir four units in Beit Safafa three units in Sur Bahir and four in al-Tur.

The move comes after Israeli settlement plans were said to be put on hold until after Trump assumed office.

Netanyahu has been widely criticized for publicly claiming to advocate a two-state solution while simultaneously championing illegal settlement policy to appeal to an increasingly right-wing government and pro-occupation Israeli public.
